SEMPORNA: More than RM250,000 in losses were incurred when three semi-permanent shops were destroyed in a fire at Ladang Kalumpang KM26 Jalan Semporna-Tawau here, on Sunday. A plantation security guard claimed that the fire started at a premises which sells and repairs motorcycle. District Fire and Rescue Department Chief Mohd Razali Awang Ahmad said, the shop houses comprised motorcycle sales and repair shop, restaurant and grocery.

According to him, a fire engine manned by five personnel rushed to the scene after being alerted at 8.59pm, adding that they were assisted by one D-Max manned by three personnel and a team from the Kunak Fire Station. "The team managed to control the fire at about 11.18pm, fortunately no casualty was reported during the operation which ended at about 1.22am," he said, adding that the cause of fire is still under investigation.
