Man is fined RM2,000 for assaulting brother

KOTA KINABALU: A 32-year-old Dusun man who punched and kicked his brother was fined RM2,000 or spend six months in prison.Nazel Rubin pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ryan Sagirann Rayner Jr to assaulting Adika Rubin, 23, at 1.30am on July 18 this year at a house in Kg Tanjung Aru Lama, here.

The offence under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to one year, or fine, or both on conviction.

In begging for a lenient sentence, Nazel told the court that he has three children and parents to look after, but Prosecuting Officer Chief Inspector Lim Swee Beng asked for an appropriate sentence.

The court heard that due to the incident, Nazel's brother suffered injuries to his legs and hands.

In the same court, a 20-year-old Filipino Suluk was jailed two years for having for sale 143 pirated Cds.

Widin Alias admitted to having the CDs without the 'B' certificate required by the Film Censorship Board at 5.30am on Sept 14 this year at the handicraft market in Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen, here.

He committed the offence under Section 18(4)(a) of the Film Censorship Act which provides for a fine of between RM5,000 and RM30,000 or a jail term of up to three years, or both, on conviction.

Sagirann ordered Widin referred to the Immigration Department after completing his jail sentence.

Widin is currently serving sentence for illegal entry.
