Nothing Islamic about IS, says Jamil

KOTA KINABALU: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom on Monday denounced the Islamic State (IS) movement and their call for Jihad, saying this was nothing close to being Islamic. He said the acts of aggression as showed by the IS group is far from the ethics and attitude of true Muslims. "The teaching of the prophet is trying to capture the hearts of many and not through hurting them, needless to say about physically hurting anyone.

"Such movement which uses brute force will be judged by the public, their approach is nothing close to the character and ethics of real Muslims," he said, here. Jamil was commenting on the caution by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein that the secession calls here will expose Sabah to the IS threat and reports which indicated the Abu Sayyaf terror group had declared their support to IS. Several men, including a Royal Malaysian Navy officer were also detained in Sabah recently over their alleged involvement with the said groups. He disagreed with the IS aggression being a form of Jihad, saying that true Jihad should be based on attaining absolute unity, or peace and other well meant efforts.

Meanwhile, Jamil indicated that no one has been nabbed by the Malaysian Islamic Affairs Department over IS, adding that he had alerted officers to work with the security forces on the matter. On another note, he also denied that several pilgrims from Africa were now blocked from entering Egypt to perform their Haj following the Ebola scare.
