Coffee shops rated C told to clean up or face action

Kota Kinabalu: Coffeeshop owners whose premises have been rated C by City Hall have been told to clean up their premises or risk being compounded.City Hall Public Health Office Chief, Danny Kok, said there are many coffee shops in the city which took the ratings for granted, refusing to improve the condition of their premises even after being told to do so on numerous occasions.

"City Hall will be conducting regular checks on the premises from now on and those who failed to adhere to the Public Health Ordinance will be compounded," he said.

He added that business owners should ensure that their licence, their health cards and other documents are in order as required by the law.

During an inspection conducted by City Hall on Monday, the officers issued two compounds to a food premises for failing to adhere to the law.

"The business licence had expired and it did not have a proper health card.

For each offence, the owner had been compounded RM500 for a total of RM1,000," said Kok.

The owner was also served a notice to improve the cleanliness of the premises.
