Successful outing for KOS karate Koi in Labuan

Kota Kinabalu: Team Kobeosaka Sabah Karate (KOS) made a successful outing at the Labuan Karate international Open Festival which ended on Monday.According to Kota Kinabalu Karate Koi Association President Loh Beng Hui, the team consisting 28 athletes returned with eight gold, three silver and six bronze medals and finished second overall in the medal tally.

Goshin-Ryu Malaysia top the medal tally with 13 gold medals, a silver and two bronze medals.

Loh said: "It was a great showing from our athletes and congratulation to them. A huge thank you also to all of the coaches, officials, team leaders, supporters and especially the parents in their contribution for the success of team KOS."

The gold medals contributors for the team were Kyle Liew (boy kata 8-10 yrs old); Shami Yusuf (boy kata 11-13); Erica Mauritius (girl kata 11-13); Brandon Ho (boy kata 14-15 ); Julia Aveline (girl kata 5-7); Demii Bong (female kumite junior + 55 kg); Fahmi Yusof (junior male kumite -61 kg ) and Al-Faizal Eden (cadet male kumite -52 kg).

Silver medalists were Aiyob Belahan (male veteran kumite),Allessandra Joanes (female cadet kata and kumite female +54 kg) while the bronze came from Hannah Ng (girl kata 8-10 yrs old ) ;Zachary Sondah (boy kata 10-13); Samson indran ( male senior kumite -75 kg);Nicole Wong ( girl kata 11-13 ); Mohd Idris Hakim (boy kumite 11-12) and Alif Alfian (cadet male kumite -52 kg).

Eighteen teams from Brunei, India, Sri Lanka, Japan and as far as South Africa and New Zealand took part, besides Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak, Perak, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Perlis, Selangor and hosts Labuan.
