Pupil 'hurt in avoiding teacher'
Kota Kinabalu: The picture of a Primary Two boy with a bloodied head and a message stating that it resulted from his head being slammed on the table by his Malay teacher from the peninsula caused an uproar among Sabahans in social media with many demanding her immediate dismissal. The message also named the teacher and her photo was shared on WhatsApp with a caption "Saya ajar budak ini supaya pintar seperti saya' (I am teaching this boy so he can be as smart as me).

The Bahasa Malaysia teacher apparently punished the boy for failing to do his homework by pulling his ear and slapping him before banging his head on the table.

The blow wounded the boy's head and he was rushed to the hospital where he received three stitches.

His father lodged a police report on the 11am incident on Monday.

State Education Department Director Datuk Jame Alip later went to the school to check on the validity of the claim.

"Upon investigation, we found the teacher only held the boy's earlobes.

However, the boy tried to avoid it by turning around and twisted his legs.

"This caused him to lose balance and he fell, hitting his head on the side of the teacher's table," he said in a statement. He said he also met with the boy's parents to explain what really happened.

"After the explanation the parents were satisfied. I deny the accusation that the teacher banged the pupil's head on the table and I consider this case solved," he said.
