Woman jailed and fined for duping man of RM50,000

KOTA KINABALU: A 45-year-old Kadazan woman who cheated a man of RM50,000 over the purported purchase of a piece of land was jailed 18 months and fined RM1,000 in default two months' jail.Irene Otip pleaded guilty before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to cheating one Jake Julian of the money by deceiving him into believing that she had a cousin who wanted to sell a piece of land.According to the charge, Irene told Jake that her cousin entrusted her with selling the land as a consequence of which Jake gave her RM50,000.

The crime took place at 2pm on July 31, 2013 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, here.She committed the offence under Section 420 which provides for a jail term of between one and 10 years, and whipping and liability of a fine, on conviction.Balitus ordered Irene to serve the jail sentence from the date of her arrest.In another case, a 20-year-old man and a juvenile were charged with stealing a motorcycle.

Suhaimi Amir and the 13-year-old boy, both Bajau, are accused of stealing a motorcycle between 1am and 4am on Sept 11 this year at a staircase near the Plaza Utama in Alamesra, Menggatal.On an alternative charge, Suhaimi together with the boy, allegedly disposed a stolen motorcycle between 1am and 4am on the same day at Kg Tatahan, Inanam.

Suhaimi claimed trial to both the charges but no plea was taken from the boy as his plea would be recorded on Oct 2 at the Court for Children.The court fixed Oct 21 for case management and released Suhaimi on a bail of RM3,000 in two local sureties.Meanwhile, one Mohd Sidirizad Saimin pleaded not guilty to disposing a stolen motorcycle at 5pm on Sept 15, 2013 at a house in Kg Kalansanan, Inanam.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
