KOTA KINABALU: Vice Chancellor of University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF), Professor Ghazally Ismail and UCSF Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr. Dayang Aminah Ali are both keen on assisting locals to promote their work or accomplishments abroad. As part of this effort, they will be attending the Cannes Film Festival in France, share knowledge on how to promote local visual art overseas and also collaborate with people of international and impeccable standards to elevate the knowledge of locals."This will ensure that they won't be graduating aimlessly without knowing which way to go next," said Ghazally.ADVERTISEMENT Emphasis is given to art such as filming, script writing, painting and photography. Collaborating with prestigious schools abroad as well as getting involved in projects and competitions will also be part of an on going learning process for all of them.In relation to this, Ghazally was proud to announce that their students recently won in two categories in the Merdeka Day nationwide contest involving multimedia / video with the theme "Inspiring Linkages in conjunction with Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day."Yusri Theng was awarded the 'Anugerah Negeri di Bawah Bayu', Aizat Anwar Awang Rahman was awarded the 'Anugerah Green Wisdom of Elders' while Gabriel Laidi was awarded a Merit. ADVERTISEMENT The goal of the contest was to rediscover the most inspiring and valuable old-knowledge, wisdom or ideas from common senior citizens. It focused on imparting knowledge which came from the elderly and then passed down to youths as well as improve the generation gap. The project allowed Malaysians to be creative in presenting information while at the same time, preserving it.

The competition was organised by the Malaysian Association of Creativity and Innovation (MACRI) with the collaboration of the Multimedia Development Corporation (MdeC) and Yayasan 1Malaysia. "Their participation in the competition was in line with UCSF's vision to instil patriotism within students especially during the Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day celebration." Meanwhile, UCSF is now in the process of collaborating with a filmmaking company from London, United Kingdom. Its representatives will be here from Nov 3 to Dec 4 for a workshop."This is a good opportunity for locals who are interested in making documentary films," said Ghazally."Students from London will be flying here to make a documentary with locals."He said that the collaboration from both parties would be able to give mutual improvement where experiences and knowledge is concerned. "This enables an international product to be produced."So far, UCSF has three intellectual properties (IP) and have been shown on TV1 and TV3.This is in line with the government's goals to meet market demands and develop the human capital. "We are committed to give our best.""This a good achievement because most universities in Malaysia do not have an IP even though they offer courses in Multimedia."UCSF will be producing two more IP's and sell five of their IP's in Europe on Oct 9 this year.According to Dr Dayang, UCSF will also be setting up a 'Teaching and Learning Factory' soon.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
