KOTA KINABALU: Police have discovered a new and more potent Ecstasy drug in a green liquid form, which is a first in the country, following the arrest of a Sarawakian Chinese here on Sept 28.The 29-year-old drug trafficker from Miri, who worked as a salesman, was nabbed at Gaya Street at 12.15pm last Sunday before he could distribute various types of drug substances worth RM70,000, including 54 small bottles containing the green liquid believed meant for entertainment outlets.

State Narcotic Chief, Supt. Abdul Rahim Dolmat, said the Ecstasy drug in the form of green liquid costing RM100 per bottle, which is being circulated in the local market, was only detected in Sabah as his counterparts in the peninsula have confirmed that they have yet to make such seizures.

He said the green liquid containing the drug was believed to have a strong and quick effect on the users compared to Ecstasy pills.

"The suspect was apprehended after we received a tip-off and a one-week surveillance on his activities.

"Subsequently, he led us to his rented condominium at Tanjung Lipat and we found 54 small bottles containing the green liquid form inside a biscuit can, 1,350 Eramin 5 pills in strips, 168 pink capsules in four packets containing amphetamine-type stimulant drug and seven packets of 350 green pills containing the same stimulant drug found hidden in a ceiling in the kitchen area.

"We also seized 81 plastic packets of Chinese teabags which we believe contain an amphetamine-type stimulant drug in the form of powder, and one plastic packet believed to weigh about 16.28 grammes of syabu," he said, adding that police also confiscated a Perodua Myvi car that belongs to the suspect's family member in Sarawak.

Abdul Rahim said this in a press conference at the State police headquarters at Kepayan, here, Wednesday.

He said they believed that the suspect rented the condominium to keep the ready-made drugs before distributing them in entertainment outlets here and nearby districts.

"Our initial investigation revealed that the suspect came to Sabah about three months ago and ferried all the drug consignments believed from Sarawak in the car on his own, to be trafficked here.

"With his arrest and seizure of such substances, we have foiled the suspect's drug trafficking activities that target entertainment outlets here," he said.

Abdul Rahim said the suspect will face the death sentence under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 39A(1) of the same Act for possessing the syabu.
