KOTA KINABALU: Perodua is confident in continuing the success of the Myvi, which was the nation's best selling car in its segment for nine consecutive years, with the newly-launched Axia after receiving 1,600 bookings in Sabah since its launch. Its President cum Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh, said the figure adds up to a whopping 28,000 total bookings nationwide since its official launch on September 15.

"From the 28,000, we saw the 40 per cent of the bookings were for the SE and Advance variants, another 40 per cent for the Standard G variant and another eight percent were for the E Variant.

"In East Malaysia however, we are seeing a slight difference in demand where the SE and Advance variants are at about 58 per cent while the Standard G holds 32 per cent and another 10 per cent for the E variant," he said.

Aminar was speaking to reporters during a press conference after flagging off the Axia Your Smart Move Motorcade at Sutera Harbour Resort, here, yesterday.

Inherently, the company is also facing an extended delivery waiting period of average of six months in Sabah depending on variant. However Perodua is planning to reduce it to 1.5 months by the end of the year.

According to Aminar, the long waiting period stemmed from the change in the order's proportion where many customers who had made their bookings before the official launch, opted for higher specification variants after the launch.

"Many customers upgraded their bookings when the official prices were announced as they were lower than what they expected.

"Because of that, we need to change our production plan, and the vendors need two to three months to sort things out.

"From the production's perspective, we have the capacity and we're planning to roll out between 36,000 to 40,000 units of Axia by year end," Aminar said.

The event also marked the start of the company's promotional activities in East Malaysia, conducted in collaboration with RTM's Ging Bubut FM.

He said that the Perodua Axia motorcade will begin on October 9, from Tawau to Kota Kinabalu.

"This motorcade will make stops along this route to promote the Perodua Axia by explaining its many features as well as giving test drives to potential buyers.

"Based on previous experiences, this has attracted very positive feedback from the public," he said adding that, a Perodua Mobile Team will also participate in the motorcade where they provide servicing service to customers in the areas visited.

Speaking of the model, Aminar said that it represents Perodua's continued commitment in producing high quality yet affordable vehicles to the Malaysian public.

"Starting from RM26,540 in Sabah, this new model set a new benchmark for Perodua in terms of cost effectiveness, quality and practicality.

Also present were RTM Sabah Director, Abdul Jailani Mahmud, and Perodua Chief Operating Officer, Zahari Husin.
