KOTA KINABALU: The crime rate in Kepayan has reduced to almost zero crime, thanks to close cooperation between police and residents. City Police Chief ACP M. Chandra said among concerns raised two or three months ago had to do with syabu and the Mat Rempit menace, however this has changed. He said this during a two-hour meet-and-greet session at with Kepayan residents here, on Thursday, involving a total of 26 police officers and personnel.

Also present were Kepayan Kapitan Wong Kong Hin and Lido Kapitan Chong Kiam Fah among others. Chandra said the programme received encouraging support from about 50 residents, including Kapitans and Resident Community Association who turned up. "They said the area has become almost like a crime free place compared to previous months, however there are normal concerns about lack of parking spaces. "We have to be very selective in traffic enforcement in residential areas such as this and we are aware that many people come here during lunch hour despite the lack of parking space.

"Thus, even if they park in non-gazetted parking space, unless their vehicles are obstructing traffic flow we will use our discretion in enforcing traffic law," he said. Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
