Star member charged with causing hurt

KOTA KINABALU: A State Reform Party (Star) member was on Thursday charged in the Magistrate's Court with causing hurt to another member of the party during the 13th General Election last year.Richard Jimmy, 45, a Kadazan, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus to assaulting one Innocent Makajil, 64, at 3.30pm on May 5, 3013 at the road entrance to the SK St Theresa polling station in Inobong, Penampang. The offence under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to a year, or fine of up to RM2,000, or both, on conviction.

Balitus fixed Nov 15 for trial and released Richard on a bail of RM2,000 in two local sureties.

In another case, Balitus issued a warrant of arrest for a local Bajau who was absent for his trial on a charge of stealing a tablet. Balitus set Oct 16 for review of Mohd Shahril Mohamad's arrest warrant.

Shahril is accused of stealing the tablet belonging to an 18-year-old woman at 9.15am on Sept 12 this year at the city mosque in Likas. Previously, Sharil was released on a bail of RM2,500 in two local sureties pending his trial.

Inspector Azaman Hamat prosecuted.

Meanwhile, in another court, another local Bajau was sentenced to six months for stealing an iPad and money.

Jiffrie Taib, 45, admitted before Senior Assistant Registrar Dzul Helmy Yunus who sat as a magistrate to stealing the item and money at 11.55am on July 10 at a stall in Buhavan Square, Donggongon, Penampang.

The court heard that the owner of the items and the public managed to arrest Jiffrie immediately. The items were recovered. Inspector Syahrin Ali appeared for the prosecution.
