KOTA KINABALU: The Grace Charity Musical Concert dubbed 'The Great Wonder of Christmas' is expected to raise RM120,000 for six charitable organisations in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of the foundation of Grace Chapel Luyang.Chairperson of the Grace Charity Fund (under Grace Chapel Luyang, KK), Datuk Nancy Ho said Thursday, the event is scheduled to be held on Dec 6 and 7 at the Sabah State Cultural Complex from 7.30pm.

"We (Grace Charity Fund) choose the Christmas season for the concert because it is a time of giving and thanksgiving. It enables us to celebrate Christmas with the community apart from helping to build and reinforce a caring and sharing society.

"Accumulated worldly wealth is nothing compared with any special gift that we give to others.

"Whatever the amount raised will be divided equally among the six organisations. We will not keep money for ourselves," she told a press conference at the Grace Chapel. Concert Organising Chairperson Lai Su Yin was unable to attend.

The beneficiaries will be Grace Charity Fund, represented by Ho, Kota Kinabalu Lions Ambulance Service Society (Lass), represented by Chairperson Karen Koh, Kota Kinabalu Widows Welfare Association (KKWWA), represented by President Lina Chin, Persatuan Hospice St Francis Xavier Mission, represented by Chairman Justin Supil, Rumah Bakti Harapan, represented by Treasurer Anchil Tseu, and Agape Counselling Centre Malaysia (KK Branch), represented by Chief Operation Officer Chung Chiu Pin.

Ho said the escalating cost of living poses an even greater challenge to these charitable bodies as they depend greatly on public support.

"It is the selfless service of caring people at the frontline that motivated us to organise 'The Great Wonder of Christmas'. I believe the public will give generously if they are convinced that the volunteers are sincere in carrying out their mission.

"God will abundantly bless us all for our contributions," she added.

The concert will feature the 45-member Grace Choir formed in May this year and led by conductor Thomas Tam who majors in vocal training. Members, aged between the twenties and sixties, are music lovers who care for the needy and underprivileged.

"We come from various churches but embrace a common vision and that is to use music in a good cause," he said.

Among those present were Lass Medical Sub-Committee Chairman, Dr Wah Hai Sit, KKWWA Adviser Datin Chu Chiu Hyung, Rev Tan Chai Kwong (Pastor, Grace Chapel), Rev Lo Wah Sing (Pastor, Good News Church of Sabah) and Rev Ling Heu Uh (Pastor, Methodist Church Sabah).

For concert tickets priced at RM100 and RM50, call 088-224371 (Miss Lim) or 016-8315688 (Mr Lai). Alternatively, the public can make cash donations or advertise in the commemorative magazine to mark the chapel's 60-year Journey of Service to the community.

Meanwhile, Ho, then Organising Chairperson of the well-supported Grace Community Carnival held by Grace Chapel Luyang in May this year, disclosed that the event raised about RM70,000.

"The amount has also been donated to five charitable organisations," she said.
