Year Six pupil falls from second floor of school

KOTA KINABALU: A 12-year-old pupil fractured his arm and suffered internal injuries after he fell from the second floor ceiling of the two-storey SK Ansip in Keningau, Thursday. At press time, the boy had not regained consciousness at the Keningau Hospital but was scheduled to be transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here for further treatment. It was not immediately clear as to what the boy was doing at the ceiling before he fell two storeys down.State Education Department Director Datuk Jame Alip said information gathered from the school headmaster showed the incident took place at about 9.10am. ADVERTISEMENT He said it was learnt that prior to the incident, the boy had asked to be excused to go for a toilet break. However, his failure to return prompted his class teacher to search for him only to find the injured boy lying unconscious on the ground. The teacher sought help from another teacher who happened to be walking by and together they alerted the school administration before rushing the boy to the Keningau Hospital. Jame, who is currently in Kuala Lumpur to attend a meeting, said he is waiting for a full report from the police and school.Meanwhile, newly-appointed Acting Keningau Police Chief ASP Merbin Lisa said they are investigating the incident from every angle but have ruled out any element of foul play.
