KOTA KINABALU: J Borneo Native Village in collaboration with Bayo Pictures will be showcasing the Sininggazanak Drama Musical Theatre by May next year.JNBV founder Jivinsol Moosom said the main objective of this theatre is to revive and preserve the history and art of the native indigenous Kadazan people as it is passed through the generations.

"The 'Sininggazanak' is the practice of erecting a traditional wooden monument to the childless which was common among the Kadazans of Penampang-Putatan-Kinarut in the early to mid 20th century period," said Jivinsol.

He explained that the Sininggazanak would be erected on the deceased childless persons' land by a member of the family or relative who had the strongest claim to inherit the property.

"Although we no longer practice this old traditional cultural practise, we ought to appreciate the symbolism and art of different periods."

Jivinsol said JBNV together with Bayo Pictures Sdn Bhd (BPSB) has appointed P. Dik Ganai as the director of the musical drama theatre.

The theatre is expected to be showcased in May 2015 at the Hituun Di Moosom Hall J Borneo Native Village for both tourists and locals.

Jivinsol said JBNV and BPSB were also in the midst of looking for new talent in singing, acting or playing traditional instruments such as the Sompoton, Bungkaw, Suling and Tongkungon.

Men and women aged 18-56 and children aged 5-8 who are fluent in Kadazan may also come forward to be auditioned.
