PETALING JAYA: PAS central committee member Nasrudin Hassan wants the Federal and state governments to ban the Oktoberfest festival. He said in a statement on his Facebook that Oktoberfest "affects the sensitivities of Muslims in Malaysia."

"I do not deny the rights of non-Muslims who are allowed to consume alcohol.

"However, in a country that professes Islam as its national religion, that right should be done privately and neither promoted nor feted any further in this way," said Nasrudin, who is Temerloh MP.

He said the festival "challenges the sensitivities of the Muslim folks."

"I urged the authorities not to take this phenomenon lightly. Take the necessary action," he added.

He said that the festival was a bane even though it was carried out in an enclosed area.

"Do not let the country develop with a culture of evil and sin. Later, it could destroy the civilisation with all human dignity being lost and thus being cursed by God.

"Do not give excuses that it's out of your jurisdiction because it's going to affect us. Act before it's too late," said Nasrudin.
