KOTA BELUD: The Sabah Government has never neglected Chinese national-type schools (SJKC) which play a major role in the development of future human resources.Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the commitment of the state government could be seen in the large annual allocations to specially-assisted schools, including SJKC, in the state.

"Last year, the Government allocated RM13 million to Mission and private Chinese schools," he said when officiating the new building of the SJKC Chung Hwa, here, Monday.

Also present were Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan and SJKC Chung Hwa acting principal Sally Tham.

Musa, who is also State Finance Minister, said the state government would continue its commitment in ensuring the national education policy benefited the development of human resources involving all races in the country.

He said the construction of the new three-storey building would benefit students and teachers in the school, providing for better-quality learning and teaching.

Construction for the new building began in 2010, and was completed about two years later, at a cost of RM2.48 million via a special provision from the education ministry's assistance programme.

Earlier, Musa and Abdul Rahman presented aid to 75 flood victim families at the Tun Said Community hall here.

Meanwhile, this year's State Budget would take into account the prevailing economic conditions and be focused on balanced spending.

"We must consider the current economic situation and avoid unnecessary spending," Musa said.

He said while the Government would be more prudent in its spending, the needs of the rakyat and priority projects would not be neglected.

"We still have a healthy reserve. However, we must remember while we spend for the socioeconomic development of the state, we must also save for the future," he said.

Musa, who is state Finance Minister, said while the government would be more prudent in its spending, the needs of the rakyat and priority projects would not be neglected.

He is scheduled to table the state Budget 2015 at the Sabah State Legislative Assembly on Nov 7.

Earlier, Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said Musa has brought much development and progress to the state in his nine years as Chief Minister.

Musa has raised the state budget to a commendable level and brought down the poverty rate from 30 per cent to nine per cent, he said, adding every year state government departments have been getting five-star ratings for efficiency and management.

Musa is also concerned about the well-being of the people regardless of race or religion and often goes to the ground to feel the pulse of the state, the Kota Belud MP added.
