M'sia on lookout to invest in investor-friendly states in India

NEW DELHI: Malaysia is always on the lookout to invest in foreign investor-friendly states in India in areas such as infrastructure and urban transportation among others, said Minister Counsellor (Economic Affairs), High Commision of Malaysia in New Delhi, Aida Shafinaz Allias.Auto manufacturing, aviation, information t chnology are other areas that Malaysian businesses are interested in collaborating with Indian partners, she said.

"We are always on the lookout for foreign investor-friendly states to collaborate with for mutually-beneficial ventures, which could lead to mutual prosperity," she said here Tuesday.

Malaysian companies, she said, are optimistic about the potentials available in India amid the keen interest in attracting Malaysian investors to the country by the government.

"Recently, Malaysia was a partner country in the Global Investment Summit held in Indore, Madya Pradesh, where the state has shown keen interest in attracting Malaysian investments," she said.

The Malaysian delegation, which was led by Malaysian High Commissioner to India, Datuk Naimun Ashakli Mohammad, had the opportunity to call on Madya Pradesh Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Madya Pradesh is a state in Central India.

"They whole-heartedly welcome Malaysian investments into Madya Pradesh," she said.

Among others, she said, requests were put forward by the state for low-cost airline, AirAsia, to fly into the state.

"We have also shown interest in infrastructure projects," said Aida.

Asked if Malaysian businesses have any concern in investing in India, she said the central and state governments in India will need to work hand in hand to iron out and dismantle some of the red tapes which hindered business operations in the country.

On the other hand, she said, Malaysia also welcomed investments from India, specifically in high value-added sector. – Bernama
