KOTA KINABALU: Several youths staged another peaceful gathering to protest the fuel price hike in Labuan, recently. The flashmob was organised by Pro-Mahasiswa UMSKAL led by its Chairman Jamhuri Mohamed to make people aware of the burden not only to university students but the people at large.

The youths also distributed RM1 to kiosk stations in the island as a symbol of lessening the burden of local community who have to face the rising cost of living due to the fuel price hike.

Jamhuri also described the recently tabled Budget 2015 as being not friendly to university students as well as the people.

"We are unhappy when university students are not only burdened with the rising cost of living but those who borrowed money from the National Higher Education Fund

Corporation (PTPTN) will also have their names listed in the Central Credit Reference Information System (CCRIS) as mentioned by the Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh," he said.

He questioned how the personal taxes of the country's top 20 billionaires could not be revealed under the privacy laws via Section 138 of the Income Tax Act 1967, but university students are threatened to have their names included in the CCRIS.

"We are also not happy with the Bantuan Rakyat 1 Malaysia one-off payment which does not help lessen our burden, it would be much better if the government reduces the fuel price instead," he said.

A similar flashmob was also conducted at Gaya Street Sunday Market here, by several youths from Gamis Sabah led by its Chairman Ahmad Ainullutfi Azzman and Sigma Sabah Chairperson led by Haslisa Hariono.
