Mara gets RM50 million for TVET programmes

SEMPORNA: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) has been allocated RM50 million to implement Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes next year, Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said Sunday.He said the allocation was aimed at empowering the Malay and Bumiputera agenda, as well as technical and vocational education.The Government, he said, had also agreed to set aside a huge allocation to the Education Ministry for the placement of 10,000 students at technical and vocational colleges nationwide next year.ADVERTISEMENT This allocation is apt as the country is still 46 per cent short of workers with technical and vocational skills, he said at a gathering of Distinguished Young Generation organised by the Malaysian Education Foundation (YPM), here.He also announced an allocation of RM1.5 million for the YPM HELP Tuition programme.Meanwhile, Shafie said the society should play a proactive role to maintain the cleanliness of their surrounding to curb the spread of dengue."The people should take preventive measures such as ridding of empty containers inside and outside their houses, as well as to ensure their water tanks and flower vases are not breeding places for mosquitoes.ADVERTISEMENT Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

"Preventive measures have to be made a priority to ensure we are free of dangerous diseases that could lead to death," he said in his speech at a programme to combat the spread of dengue here.He also advised the people to cooperate with the Government and non-governmental organisations involved in programmes to combat dengue and to seek immediate medical treatment should they fall sick.
