Labuan Oktoberfest kicks off in high note

LABUAN: Oktoberfest made its foray into Labuan 204 years after it was first celebrated in Munich in 1810, but the mood and Bavarian spirit was no less authentic.A four-piece Munich Oktoberfest Band from Germany led by Eveline Shauer set the tempo for the evening. Their lively folk numbers had the 400-strong crowd dancing round the tables at the ballroom of Palm Beach Resort.According to Eveline, the Bavarians would go prancing on the tables and benches.

In the tradition of Oktoberfest, One Stop Duty's CEO Alfred Kong performed the tapping of the keg to start the German fare dinner.Eveline, a hardcore Bavarian, said the fest is more than the ample supply of beer. The values and harmonious living together are the essence of its survival to this day. It is now the grandest people's fair in Europe but Brazil had overtaken the country of origin in terms of scale.Dressed as a tavern girl, the band leader explained that the hand-stitched outfit was designed to celebrate life and robust movement for dancing.
