KUALA LUMPUR: Two participants of high-powered motorcycle convoy were killed, while two others were severely injured, after being involved in an accident at Km26.4 of the Karak Highway near here Sunday. Gombak police chief ACP Ali Ahmad said the accident occurred at 11.24am when all the convoy participants were heading home from Bukit Lintang, Central Melaka to Shah Alam.

"Initial investigation found that there was a stationary lorry in the middle of the road and was believed to have caused traffic congestion not far from the scene.

"The convoy participants were believed to have tried to avoid the traffic congestion, but the slope factor and the size of their machines had probably caused them to brush against each other, skid and catch fire," he said here Sunday.

He said there were three motorcycles involved in the incident, with two of the riders sustained severe injuries after being thrown onto the road, while the other one was burnt to death after his machine caught fire.

Ali said in a matter of seconds, another motorcycle brushed against two cars, causing the rider to be thrown onto the road and hit by an incoming car.

The rider died at the scene, he said.

"The two dead riders are Zali Khalid, 32, and Md Nizam Hanapiah, 47. The bodies, as well as the injured riders were taken to Selayang Hospital," he said.

It is learnt that all the victims were among 100 riders who participated regularly in the weekly convoy to Central Melaka. – Bernama
