NGOs must maximise allocations for target groups: PM

PUTRAJAYA: Non-government organisations (NG)) must ensure allocations provided by the government are optimally used to carry out projects to help target groups, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. He said the move would ensure more Malaysians benefited from funds approved by the government for NGOs. "Effectiveness of NGOs is not measured from the activities they carry out but the reports submitted and results achieved. Whatever allocation is provided by the government, an NGO needs to use it in the best way."An effective NGO focuses on outcome not output. It is not the number of activities you do, but the outcome that you have achieved," he said when speaking at the 5th anniversary of the myNADI Foundation here.

Earlier, myNADI Foundation chairman Tan Sri Dr Jeyaindran Sinnadurai, when tabling the five-year achievement of the foundation, said of the funds received from the government, only six per cent was used for administration. Meanwhile, the rest was used to implement numerous projects for the target groups such as for repairing schools, temples and crematoriums, he added.
