1,500 apartment residents evacuated following landslides

KUALA LUMPUR: About 1,500 residents of the Teratai Apartment in Taman Bukit Raya near Bukit Beruntung were evacuated and housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bunga Raya following a landslide Tuesday morning. Kuala Kubu Baharu Fire and Rescue Station head, Noor Azhar Tajudin said a distress called was received at 10.44am before firemen arrived at the location at 11.20am. "Initial investigations found a landslide about 15 metres from the housing area. For the safety of residents, we directed them to be evacuated temporarily to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bunga Raya," he said.

He said residents needed to wait at least three days for a decision by the Works Department on whether it was safe for them to live there. Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

"We do not know when they would be allowed back to their residence as it takes time to investigate and determine the safety of the area after a landslide has taken place," he said. Azhar said currently there were more earth movements occurring and the situation was being monitored. – Bernama
