Masidi urges farmers not to ignore children's education

RANAU: The farming community here has been advised to not ignore their children's education while focusing their efforts on being successful farmers. Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said farmer parents must never neglect their children in any aspect, particularly in education.

"Yes, we want our farming community to thrive and achieve greater feats in their endeavor to become successful farmers.

"It is also shown by the government in the recent budget tabling whereby a special allocation has been reserved for highland farmers. However, we also want our excellent farmers to become successful parents, where every child born in a farming family could be nurtured to become successful a swell as exemplary individuals in future," he said.

Masidi who is also Karanaan Assemblyman said this while officiating at the Pesta Kubis (Cabbage Festival) 2014 held at Kundasang Town Public Square, on Saturday.

Meanwhile, he said the festival provides an opportunity for farmers in the area to show to the public their best vegetable produce as well as sell them to visitors from other places.

Among other activities held were the 28th Mt Kinabalu International Climbathon, colouring contest, government and private sector exhibition, Volkswagen exhibition, vegetable competition, Sulap Dusun competition, traditional dishes competition, 4x4 challenge, Sabah idol and others. During the Pesta Kubis, Masidi presented awards and prizes to several excellent farmers who achieved excellent agricultural feats. He also urged the event organisers to introduce more awards to appreciate special achievement by students who scored excellent academic results in their school exams in future.

Also present were Kundasang Assemblyman Datuk Dr Joachim Gunsalam, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Sabah Parks Dato Seri Tengku Zainal Adlin, District Officer Hj Faimin Kamin, Organising Chairman Suhilin Hadi and others.
