RANAU: Institut Kajian Sejarah dan Patriotisme Malaysia (IKSEP), General Manager Datuk Dr Aziz Ujang said the younger generation must possess a liberal and idealistic mindset to be prepared to steer the country to be on par with developed nations in the world. "Young people today must also be smart enough to counter negative influences that exist at the fingertips of today's generation.

"In this era of technology, all information is available at one's fingertips. This leaves our young generation to be opened to all kinds of threats that are damaging to their minds and spirit.

"Towards that end, the young generation must be nurtured to identify what is good and what is bad but disguised as good. They must have a liberal and idealistic mindset which is important for the future of this country," he said.

Aziz was speaking at the closing of the Kem Rakan Remaja Patriotik Institut Kajian Sejarah dan Patriotisme Malaysia that was held at the Kem Bina Negara Kundasang on Sunday.

According to him the programme is aimed at changing the mentality as well as creating a new culture among the participants in order to equip themselves for times to come.

About 130 students from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Universiti Teknologi Mara Negeri Sabah (UITM) as well as Form Six students from Ranau and Kundasang participated in the programme. – CGD
