KOTA KINABALU: Lorry transport operators are urged to capitalise on the current situation in the industry by creating new business mechanisms and collaborative opportunities.Sabah West Coast Lorry Transportation Association Chairman, Steven Foo, said that with the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), recent hike in fuel prices and several other changes within the industry, lorry operators should adopt the Blue Ocean Strategy to face the challenges."Members of the association should view the current situation in the industry as an opportunity to come up with new mechanisms to operate their businesses as well as to foster new business relations with each other.

"It is a good time for members to observe and find solutions to their business problems through the Blue Ocean Strategy and work together to face the current challenges we are facing in the industry," he said.Foo said this in his speech at the Sabah West Coast Lorry Transportation Association's 8th Installation Night, here.
Also present were Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah, who was also the Guest of Honour for the dinner, as well as heads of Lorry Transportation Associations from other districts in Sabah.Meanwhile, Foo also urged the Government to take heed of the association's requirements to enable its members to operate their businesses better as well as to provide the public with the best possible service.

"We will be suggesting to the relevant authorities to reduce the annual road tax for commercial vehicles to lower the increasing cost faced by our members."Besides that, we also hope that the relevant authorities will increase the maximum allowed load weight for commercial vehicles. We will be working with the authorities to come up with a win-win situation for both the association's members and the authorities," he said.

Foo also urged lorry transport operators who have yet to register with the association to do so as soon as possible so that the association can further develop the sector with its members together.Earlier, the dinner saw the installation of the association's new committee members for 2014-2015, witnessed by Yong.
