KUALA TERENGGANU: Statistics from the Department of Women's Development have shown a drop in domestic violence cases, with 3,268 cases recorded in the first eight months of this year compared to 4,123 cases in the same period last year. Its Deputy Director-General, Che Azizah Che Rashid, said the level of awareness among women regarding domestic violence was improving, following the various programmes carried out at the state and national level. "The department carries out awareness programmes such as talks on women's rights so that women know who they can turn to in case they are victims of domestic violence.

"However, we don't deny there are still cases where women don't want to come forward due to factors such as embarrassment, third-party interference and not wanting their children's emotions to be affected when others know about their father's actions," she said.
