KUALA LUMPUR: The Umno General Assembly 2014 from Nov 25 to 29 will focus on Barisan Nasional's (BN) successful by-election campaigns since March last year. The party's information chief, Datuk Ahmad Maslan said the delegates would be debating on the BN election machinery's successful campaign models in some of the by-elections.

"For instance, we can talk about how BN had won in the Pengkalan Kubor state seat by-election with a bigger majority, which could serve as a guide in future elections," he told reporters, here, Thursday.

He said BN's victory in opposition-held constituencies or strongholds like Teluk Intan in Perak would also be touched upon by the delegates in their debates. BN won four of the seven by-elections held after the 13th general election in May 2013, and these were in Kuala Besut, Terengganu in July 2013, Balingian in Sarawak (March 2014), Teluk Intan (May 2014) and the latest, in Pengkalan Kubor, Kelantan (September 2014).

Ahmad, who is also Deputy Finance Minister, said besides political issues, the debates at this year's Umno general assembly would also focus on the people's economy in line with the wish of party president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

"These include the impact of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Budget 2015," he added. – Bernama
