A Kg Nambazan resident, known only as Charles, said it started raining at about 4.30pm. "It was just a mild rain with the occasional thunder but the water has risen up to my ankle and is still rising," he said, when contacted at about 8.30pm.

It was learnt that water was rising in several villages, including Kg Penampang Proper, Kg Tanaki, K. Nambazan, Kg Kolopis and Kg Minintod at press time. Charles suspects the flood could be due to rubbish blocking the river downstream. "I think the rubbish downstream has not been cleared after the previous flood, causing water to overflow and flood our villages," he said. Divisional Water Engineer in Charge of Kota Kinabalu Division, Teo Chee Kong, when contacted at about 5.50pm said water in the Babagon Dam has overflowed into the spillway with a water-level reading of 130.5m."I am not sure when it started to overflow, but the dam has been at full level for the past few days," he said, adding that it had been raining intermittently the last few days.
