KUALA TERENGGANU: The 11 Indonesian nationals found drifting in Malaysian waters by Vietnamese fishermen Thursday claimed that they were victims of a robbery in Indonesian waters several days ago. The Indonesians, who were the crew of a palm oil tanker, were believed to have been travelling from Kalimantan to Surabaya.

However, while still in Indonesian waters, they were robbed and forced to board a lifeboat which was then set adrift.

All of them were adrift for several days before they were found by a group of Vietnamese fishermen in Malaysian waters at about 7pm Thursday.

At about 3am Friday, they arrived at the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) jetty in Chendering.

Meanwhile, Kuala Terengganu Police chief ACP Idris Abdul Rafar, when contacted, confirmed having received the report.

He said all the Indonesians were safe and were undergoing treatment at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital here.

"All crew of the oil tanker have been placed temporarily at the Chendering police station until a representative of the embassy arrives," he said. – Bernama
