IPOH: A former resort worker at Pulau Pangkor was sentenced to death by the High Court here Friday for murdering his manager six years ago.Hamzah Osman, 24, was found guilty by Justice Datuk Zainal Adzam Abdul Ghani of killing Norazudah Iden, 31, in room 202, Suria Beach Resort in Teluk Nipah, Pulau Pangkor at 1 am on Aug 18, 2008. The victim was also the wife of the resort owner. The judge held that the prosecution represented by deputy public prosecutor Harris Ong Mohd Jeffery Ong had succeeded in proving its case beyond reasonable doubt.ADVERTISEMENT He said the notice of alibi presented by the defence was weak as it established Hamzah as being present at the scene, as what was stated in the charge. "The accused also confirmed in his testimony that he was at the scene at the stated time," said the judge. Zainal Adzam also noted the inconsistency between the defence's statement and accused's testimony."The defence in its statement said that the accused wanted to go out of Pulau Pangkor because his grandfather was ill in Muar, Johor.ADVERTISEMENT "However, the accused testified that he bought a ticket at 8.30 am for Manjung to Johor Bahru to visit his grandmother and found that she had slightly recovered after undergoing an operation."It is obvious that the two statements contradict each other and have no value at all," said the judge.
