KOTA KINABALU: DAP Sabah Secretary Dr Edwin Bosi has welcomed the assurance from Putatan MP Datuk Dr Marcus Mojigoh that DAP can erect as many replicas of the "Batu Sumpah" or Oath Stone anywhere as they like. "I am taking Mojigoh's assurance with open arms and his request for one to be erected in his residence will be fulfilled. I hope he will not back out at the last minute when we arrive at his doorstep with a Bobohizan and three chickens.

"We will also make sure the original lettering on the Batu Sumpah will be engraved on his stone," he said in a statement here, Friday.

Dr Bosi, who is Chairman of the DAP Sabah Native Consultative Council, also reminded Mojigoh that the first stone was erected by the native of the Interior who were strong members of Pasok Momogun on Aug 31, 1964.

"Somehow Upko has failed to keep the spirit of the Oath Stone alive by failing to honour it with a sacrificial ceremony every year on Aug 31. A simple condition in the erection of the Oath Stone was forgotten. I think Mojigoh is right about the curse that comes with this Oath Stone," he said.

Dr Bosi, who is Kapayan Assemblyman, said DAP will always respect the Oath Stone.

"We will not only honour it every year without fail but will also spread its replica to every corner of Sabah, in particular, and in Malaysia, in general, to remind the people of the guarantees made by the Malaysian Government when the Federation of Malaysia was formed.

"What has happened to the three guarantees?" he asked.

"In order for us to understand this matter better, I would like to call on the Federal Government to establish a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on the Batu Sumpah to see if the dreams and aspirations of the natives of Sabah have been achieved or it is a betrayal for the last 51 years.

"I urge Mojigoh and his Upko to come on board and fight for the rights and privileges of the natives of Sabah through the Batu Sumpah.

"I would like to 'educate' Mojigoh that this is not a cheap publicity by DAP as it has a far reaching impact on the future of the natives of Sabah," he said.

Contrary to what Mojigoh said, he said DAP had many issues against the BN government.

"The untimely loss of the word 'Kerajaan Malaysia Jamin' in the plaque on the Oath Stone in Keingau is one big issue. The others are the ban on the use of the word 'Allah' by Christians, confiscation of the Holy Bible and the call to burn the AlKitab (Holy Bible) and are big issues.

"They are not in line with the Malaysian Government's guarantee of freedom of religion in Sabah as per inscribed on the Batu Sumpah," he said.

The other issue was the non-recognition of the NCR land after 1931.

"I would like to open Mojigoh's heart to the feel the pain and suffering of the natives especially in Ranau, Pitas, Pensiangan, Beluran and Kota Marudu just to name a few, when their NCR lands are taken away leaving them exposed, vulnerable and like strangers in their own land.

"There is a guarantee in the Batu Sumpah that land is under the control of the Sabah government which therefore places high expectation on the government of the day to help the natives as far as land is concerned," he said.

Dr Bosi said it was undeniable that the native's culture and tradition is closely linked to their NCR land and properly depicted in the third Malaysian government guarantee to respect and preserve the native culture and tradition.

Dr Bosi reminded Mojigoh that he is judged by his statements.

"One must not contradict oneself. If Mojigoh thinks that the erection of the Oath Stones in other sites other than in Keningau is cheap publicity, then he should not ask us (DAP) to erect one in his residence," he said.
