Clarence George DolRANAU: Upko must make efforts to increase support of the KDM community for Barisan Nasional (BN) as its main agenda in the next general election (GE).

Its Deputy President Datuk Dr Ewon Ebin, who is also Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, said in the previous general election the KDM support for BN was only between 37pc and 39pc.

"This shows the KDM support for BN has dwindled and this, if not handled properly, could lead to a worse scenario for the party in future elections.

"After careful assessment, we found that the opposition had used sensitive issues such as the Malaysian Constitution, the 20 Points, illegal immigrants and others.

"And when the word 'Allah' issue surfaced, we noticed that the churches began to despise BN with sentiments like one vote for BN is equivalent to one Bible being burnt, not realising that the Bibles seizure incident happened in Selangor, a Pakatan state.

"Therefore, I urge all party members to explain all the issues raised by the opposition so that the people will not be confused in future elections," he said.

Ewon, who is also Ranau MP and Ranau Upko Chief, was speaking at the opening of the 2014 Ranau Upko Convention at the District Community Hall, Saturday.

Meanwhile, Ewon said Upko must live up to its namesake, which is united, by diminishing fractions that may have emerged within the party, regardless of ranks and levels.

Also present were Upko Vice Chief cum Paginatan Assemblyman Datuk Siringan Gubat, Youth Chief Arthur Sen, Organising Chairman cum Siringan's Political Secretary, James Ingguru, Ranau Upko Youth Chief Hisyamuddin Harun and others.
