KOTA KINABALU: Many big companies which had invested millions of ringgit in Sabah are now leaving in droves because of rampant corruption.Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sabah Chairman, Jimmy Wong, alleged that he was told that these companies had vowed never to come back to Sabah.

"There are so many developers including foreign investors who would like to build high-rise buildings in Kota Kinabalu but they were put off because those in the authority are asking for millions of ringgit in 'gifts'.

"This is detrimental to the development of Sabah and must be stopped. I urge the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to step in and investigate these claims," he said.

The corruption problem is so rampant that it scared off big companies, causing Sabah to lose millions in investment dollars, he added.

"In fact, there are some high-rise buildings in the Capital which I know are operating illegally, without an OC because they did not want to pay those who are in charge of issuing OCs," he said.

Wong also claimed that the Government was focusing on the Tanjung Aru Eco Development (TAED) project "which would cater for the rich and famous only."
