Solve the Palau People issue in LD: Jainab

LAHAD DATU: The local authority and the enforcement agencies, including the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom), should work together to solve the Boat People or 'Palau' issue that is worsening in this district.According to Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad, an immediate action through the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) should be implemented to address this matter.

She said all agencies, including the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK), Immigration Department, Welfare Department and other agencies must play their respective role because the problem could not be resolved without the cooperation of all parties.

"I suggest that action using the NBOS is implemented to solve this matter, do not push away these problems to one another as it will not help to assist to solve this matter.

"Through the cooperation between the local authority and Esscom and also the role of other agencies, this problem can be solved," she told a press conference here Monday.

Jainab hoped there will be action taken to solve this issue and any action should be take immediately and effectively.

Meanwhile, Jainab, in her working visit here, also advised all parties, including consumers, to monitor the prices of goods.

She said they could lodge reports to the Federal Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism should they find an increase in the prices of goods.

"The Government takes seriously the problem of prices of goods and a variety of methods and approaches have been implemented, including consumer awareness campaign, to protect the rights of consumers.

"Not only consumers, the traders who face any problem such as not getting adequate supply of controlled goods may also seek clarification and lodge a report to the Ministry," she said after visiting one of the supermarkets in this district.

Accompanying her during the visit were the ministry's Permanent Secretary Datuk Siti Ahok, State Library Director Wong Vui Yin and State Welfare Services Department Director Etong Terang.
