Eliminating misconception about spa therapy

KOTA KINABALU: The pressing need to erase the negative perception towards the spa industry prompted the Jari Jari Training Academy to initiate the formation of the Sabah Therapists Association (STA) last year.Adviser to STA, Datin Jeanette Tambakau said it serves as a platform to promote professionalism and networking, as well as disseminate correct information to the public, particularly parents who may have been misinformed about the industry."Working as a spa therapist is recognised and upheld as a decent career in the hospitality industry. It is high time to eliminate the misconception about spa therapy.

"Contrary to public perception, proper spas in the country (including those in Sabah) are not operating as shady joints but are being star-rated by the Government. "Anybody can be trained to be a spa therapist, regardless of academic qualification, provided the individual is willing to learn and acquire skills," she said.Objectives of the Sabah Therapists Association (STA):l Promote greater cooperation, understanding and discussion among therapists on issues beneficial to them
