16 fined, jailed for having smuggled petrol, fags

SEMPORNA: Fifteen foreigners and a local Bajau were fined and jailed for having smuggled petrol and cigarettes.They were Lagu Sabil, 20, Opelnil Lumingun, 28, Junaidi Kaboan, 32, Ukito Waja, 47, Barcelona Samara, 20, Aldeh Isbar, 45, Kamba Kalombahan, 40, Kunyah Pidli, 45, Jamil Kahalan, 28, Donek Kalombahan, 20, Delmasah Dani, 25, Kolen Kaswadi, 45, Roben Kolen, 40, Alsid Patula, 20, Ikak Kalak, 60, and local Raffi Meheng, 27.All of them pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ferhanshah Farene Mohd Ferdaus. Alsid was fined RM13,000 or five months' jail for having for sale 500 packs of contraband cigarettes at 10.30pm on Sept 29 this year at a house in Kg Pulau Denawan, here. Ikak and Raffi were fined RM20,000 or spend six months behind bars for having 26 gallons of petrol at 4pm on Oct 11 inside a boat here.ADVERTISEMENT Meanwhile, the court ordered Kamba, Kunyah, Jamil, Donek and Delmasah to pay a fine of RM50,000 or 12 months' jail for having 63 gallons of petrol at 4.30pm on Sept 24 here.Lukito and Barcelona were fined RM30,000 in default 10 months' jail for having 37 gallons of the similar items at 7am on Sept 27 at the Nusakuya island waters area, here.Lagu, Opelnil and Junaidi were fined RM15,000 or six months' jail for having 21 gallons of petrol at 4.50pm on Sept 20 at the Mataking island, here and Aldeh was fined RM9,000 or spend four months in prison for possessing 12 gallons of the similar items at 10.20am on Sept 16 at the Kg Tanjung Baru, here.Kolen and Roben were jailed 10 months each for having 15 gallons of the petrol.ADVERTISEMENT Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

After paying their fines or serving their jail sentences, the foreigners were ordered referred to the Immigration Department.Prosecuting Officer Ahmad Samad from the Customs Department prosecuted the case.
