KOTA KINABALU: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) Sabah aspires to see Sabah-made products by bumiputera entrepreneurs, especially those registered with it, penetrating the big markets like the Middle East one day.

Its Director Zulkarnain Zakaria said they want to see Sabah bumiputera entrepreneurs having business partners in Dubai, Kuwait, and other Middle East countries and their respective products displayed in the shopping centres and airports there.

"We are working towards this and hope it would become a reality soon…we hope that when we go there one day we can see Sabah-made products are displayed when we arrive at any of the airports there," he said.

Zulkarnain said apart from that Mara Sabah also wants to assist bumiputera entrepreneurs to penetrate and be part of players in the State's real estate industry.

"As we all know the prices of real estate are very high in Sabah. So we want to create players from among bumiputera entrepreneurs to become players in the real estate industry," he said.

"We do not want to see our bumiputera entrepreneurs just become onlookers, we want them to be actively involved in the State's mainstream development," he added.

All these are part of Mara Sabah's overall plan to assist the State bumiputera entrepreneurs become One-Million-Dollar entrepreneurs through its various entrepreneurship development programmes, he said.

Zulkarnain said Mara Sabah has been allocated RM1.35million for bumiputera entrepreneur development purposes through the 35 related courses which it has organised and participated by over 1,200 entrepreneurs.

"After all these, we would concentrate next year on doing follow-up programmes to see the progress and achievement made by those entrepreneurs who have participated in the said courses," he said.

He said the agency's plan to develop a small and medium entrepreneur (SME) clustered factories area here may become a reality in December or the latest, January next year.

"And probably one of the clustered factory unit would be developed as a one-stop centre, like Maidin, where all the products produced by SMEs registered with Mara Sabah would be put up for display and sale," he said.

He said all these products would also be displayed for sale at other such one-stop centres by Mara elsewhere in the country and overseas.
