RM280,000 cheating: Couple to know their fate Dec 22

KOTA KINABALU: A couple will get to know their fate on Dec 22 on three charges of cheating a businessman of RM280,000.High Court Deputy Registrar Hafizi Abdul Halim, who sat as a Sessions Court judge, fixed the date for Roslena Abdullah @ Roslie Adjun, 45, and her husband Mohd Rosley Asantie, 57, when the defence closed its case after calling three witnesses.On the first count, the couple are accused of cheating one Sulip Seriung, 51, by convincing the latter about a book purchasing investment scheme which they knew did not exist which resulted in Sulip giving RM100,000 to them.

The offence allegedly took place at 3.30pm on Jan 28, 2009 at the Syarikat Lerose Enterprise premises, here.On the second count, Roslena and Rosley are accused of similarly cheating Sulip which caused him to give them another RM120,000 at 8.30am on April 27, 2009 at the same place.
On the third and similar count, they allegedly cheated Sulip of RM60,000 at 9am on April 6, 2009 at the same place.The offence, under Section 420/34 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of between one year and 10 years, and whipping and liability of a fine, on conviction.

The prosecution had called 15 witnesses during the hearing.Deputy Public Prosecutor Chow Siang Kong conducted the prosecution while counsel Timothy Daut defended the couple.-Cynthia D Baga
