KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) seized a vessel laden with high quality timber and rattan, suspected to be contraband, near Tanjung Tajau in Kudat on Wednesday.The timber and rattan were worth about RM140,000.Detained were its five-man Filipino crew, aged between 20 and 50, in the incident at the northern sector of the Eastern Sabah Security Zone.

Kudat MMEA enforcement chief, Maritime Lieutenant Commander Mohd Hafidz Tajuddin said the 20-metre long cargo vessel was spotted near the Tanjung Tajau coastline, heading for the Kudat Port about 9am.In a statement Thursday, he said initial investigations revealed the vessel was from Pulau Balabac, in the Philippines.
