KOTA BELUD: The young generation in Sabah must be brave enough to explore opportunities beyond the State's boundary and not limit themselves to what is available within the State.Upko Komulakan Chief, Ewon Benedick said exposure to the real world and its civilisation will help build a nation of citizens with a worldwide view and strong articulation on things.

According to him, Malaysia being a developing country needs citizens who can pragmatically and productively contribute to nation building, therefore those who have a worldwide view and first class attitude are much sought after.

Ewon was speaking as the guest of honour for the graduation ceremony of the pre-university students and co-curricular excellent awards ceremony in SMK Narinang, Kota Belud.

"But in seeking new knowledge and experiences out there, never forget the roots you are coming from. Think global, and act local. The people in Kadamaian will be proud of you," he added.

"Today you successfully graduated from high school. But real challenges await you the moment you walk out from this school. I'm confident that your formative years here will help you all make the right choice and be thankful to our teachers for that," he said.

Ewon also congratulated SMK Narinang for winning the district level sports championship for 15 consecutive years and also its involvement with Student Exchange Programme with schools in Korea.

Ewon who is the Political Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry suggested that agro-based entrepreneurship courses be introduced as a co-curricular programme in the school to give wider option for the students.

He also presented a RM2,000 contribution to the school programmes.
