PORT DICKSON: Sabah continued the trend of producing the nation's beauties with Kimmy Majalap, 24, winning the Miss Scuba Malaysia 2014 crown at the Avilion Admiral Cove resort, here.Majalap, from Kota Kinabalu, was surprised, as she did not expect to win but like everything she does in life, gave it everything she had.

"I feel truly honoured because winning this is something close to home and my heart," she said.

"Sabah is known for its beautiful beaches and islands."

The public relations and marketing students from Taylor's University said she plan to fulfill her personal goals.

"I could say I want to do big things but that's far from where I should start," said Majalap.

"I believe I should start with my personal goal of reducing my carbon footprint and set an example for others."

Passionate about conserving marine life, she believes everyone has a part to play.

"I often see plastic and cigarette butts on the beaches. The simple act of not littering goes a long way towards helping."

Present at the grand finale was Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.

Nazri said the Ministry strongly supported the pageant for its objective of promoting the protection of coral reefs and marine life.

"Both have heritage value and are potentially our greatest tourist attractions," he said.

The pageant has been promoting and advocating marine conservation, promoting safe diving practices, while celebrating the inner beauty and courage of today's women since 2011.

The first runner-up was Julinda Ooi, 28, who also won the subsidiary title of Miss Photogenic.

Second runner-up was Jenny Lim, 24, who claimed the title of Miss Best Talent.

The other finalists were Joey Tan, 22; Hazel Cheah, 21; Khavittrarani Rajanayagam, 20; Annie Kok, 20; and Jane Hoe, 23.
