RANAU: Ranau now has a total of 51 cooperatives registered with membership of 10,442 and a cumulative shares of RM345,005. Resource Development and Information Technology Minister, Datuk Siringan Gubat said that the number is heartening and shows that people here are moving in the right direction."From the data we obtained, we can conclude that most of cooperatives' activities are retail, wholesale, transport, subsidised oil sales, homestay and accommodation.

"Therefore, I suggest that the leaders of cooperatives continue to work towards strengthening their cooperatives because this is one initiative that can transform our lives in this area," he explained.

Siringan, who is also Paginatan Assemblyman, said this when officiating the Majlis Karnival Mini Koperasi organised by the Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia (SKM) Sabah held in Ranau Community Hall.

Meanwhile in another development, Siringan lauds the stand of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who said that the government did not issue birth certificates to stateless children in Sabah.

"It is true. The matter was discussed in Cabinet in which the use of different colour in the birth records will be issued to those children. This differentiates them with other Malaysians," he explained.

Also present were Deputy Director of SKM Sabah, James Najim Nyibu representing SKM Sabah Director, Umar Sarim Hj Saidin, Ranau District Officer, Hj Faim Kamin and others.
