KOTA KINABALU: Sandakan MP Stephen Wong said Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) should be returned to the State Government since Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is unable to help the utility company provide efficient power supply to Sabah.Debating the National 2015 Budget, Wong said based on the TNB Financial Report, it had registered profits for consecutive years since 2011 and in 2013 TNB chalked up RM4.6 billion profit. For this year, he said TNB's profit was estimated to go up to RM6.1 billion following the increase in tariff early this year.

Holding an 80 per cent stake in SESB, he said TNB has the responsibility to assist the state utility company in all aspects.Furthermore, TNB is not a private limited company but it is a monopoly company in nature that is providing the most basic needs of the people."Therefore, it has a social responsibility as well," he said, adding that if TNB is not capable of managing SESB and help the people of Sabah, he suggests that SESB be returned to the State Government.Wong also questioned the reasons for the RM2.4 billion approved allocation under the 10th Malaysia Plan to SESB not being fully utilised.
