English language events boost Ranau students' writing, speaking
RANAU: The English Language Exhibition And Mini Carnival 2014 that was held in SJK (C) Pai Wen Ranau recently have become a platform by which every students and teachers here have learnt a little bit more about writing and speaking the English language.The school's Headmistress, Mdm Goh Li King, who officiated the closing ceremony for the event, said the English language exhibition and mini carnival is designed to promote and enhance awareness, understanding as well as appreciation for the English language among all participants.

"We hope that the event have brought much benefits to all participants, including teachers. We are expecting that English teachers here could also make use of more related co-curriculum activities in English classes to facilitate learning and guarantee pupils' attention.

"Setting this programme as a platform, we decided that all Co-curriculum activities in school will gear towards the development of human capital and nation building as focused and aspired by the country's education development plan," she said.

A total of 120 pupils from Year Four and Year Five took part in the one-day English language exhibition and mini carnival which was held for the very first time in the school's history.

Among the carnival's activities included were; storytelling, poetry recitation, singing, One-minute speech, Jazz Chants, Role Play and others.

Goh said, the main purpose of those activities were to encourage the usage of English language among the pupils because when the pupils are confident enough, then they would use English more in their daily lives.

"Meanwhile, in the English language exhibition, samples of a rich language of visual maps based on thinking processes was highlighted.

By linking each thinking skill pupils are no longer confused by poorly organised brainstorming webs.

"With this, pupils could learn more effectively and more efficiently," she said when met by the media on Friday.

Goh said, the English language exhibition and mini carnival 2014 was funded by the school management.

"This programme was initiated by Madam Jenifah Abdullah who is a MBMMBI contract English teacher. This programme also provides opportunities for pupils to work together as a team apart from promoting enjoyment of the English language," she said.
