C-130 undertakes mercy flight to save baby

KOTA BAHARU: The Royal Malaysian Air Force (TUDM) Fridayc arried out a mercy flight using a Charlie (C-130) aircraft in an effort to save the life of a baby boy suffering from hole-in-the-heart since birth.Two-month-old Nik Amsyar Nazran Nik Mustapha was flown to Kuala Lumpur to be treated at the National Heart Institute (IJN), beginning Friday.

The baby's mother, Salwani Mohamed, 40, from Pasir Putih, said her family appreciated RMAF's kindness in flying her son.

"My husband does odd-jobs, earning about RM800 a month, and cannot afford the cost of sending our son to IJN.

"On behalf of my family, I am very grateful to RMAF for the mercy flight to take our son to IJN," she told reporters when met at the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport, Pengkalan Chepa here today.

Nik Amsyar Nazran, the youngest of five siblings, was taken from the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital's paediatric ward here to the airport at about 10.20 a.m. – Bernama
