Woman fatally run over by neighbour

GEORGE TOWN: A quarrel between two neighbours over rubbish has led a housewife to be fatally mowed down at Desa Intan Flat in Lebuhraya Thein Teik, Bandar Baru, here early Friday.The 12.55 am incident caused Lee Seok Pheng, 47, who was rammed from the front by her neighbour's car, to die at the Penang Hospital.

Timur Laut (Northeast) district police chief ACP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said Lee and her husband, who lived on the ground floor, was said to have quarrelled with the 53-year-old man from the third floor.

"The suspect, who was in his car, tried to ram over the victim's husband and later reversed his car before driving towards the woman and knocked her down," he told reporters here today.

He said the suspect then got out of his car and tried to flee but was caught by several members of the public who witnessed the incident.

"The suspect, who was also beaten up, was injured in the head and hands causing him to be treated as an out-patient at the Penang hospital," he said.

He said preliminary investigation revealed the suspect, who worked as a mechanic did not have any previous criminal record besides being freed from any alcoholic or drug influence. – Bernama
