TAWAU: The Sabah Housing Development and Town Authority (SHTDA) is in the process of doing a feasibility study for the proposed Kalabakan new township development at an already identified area there. If everything goes well, a proposal paper for the development of the Kalabakan New Township Phase 1 is expected to be ready by next year.

Tanjung Batu Assemblywoman Datuk Hamisa Samat, together with SHTDA General Manager, Rosnani Asmat, as well as officials from Sabah Softwood Sdn Bhd, Perkasa Reality Sdn Bhd and other government agencies visited the proposed site Thursday. The visit was primarily aimed at surveying the proposed site concerned, located at the Kalabakan – Nabawan roundabouts, not far from Kampung Rancangan Kalabakan, which is considered strategic because it is located between the junctions of Kalabakan-Nabawan and Kalabakan-Tawau roads. Hamisa, who is also Assistant Resource Development and Information Technology Minister, was pleased with the development because she had actually raised the matter since becoming an elected representative in 2008. She is also confident that the new township, once developed, would create more business and employment opportunities for the people of Kalabakan.
