Labourer jailed for burglary

KOTA KINABALU: An 18-year-old Kadazan labourer was sentenced to 15 months' jail by the Magistrate's Court for burglary.Sylvester John Jaibinson pleaded guilty before Magistrate Mohd Faiz Omar to breaking into one Joeffrin Likius' house at Kg Kodou Sugud in Penampang at 12.30am on Nov 14 and stealing RM50, an RM80 worth prepaid card, a gold ring, two cameras and a power bank.Inspector Syahrin Ali, prosecuting, told the court that Joeffrin lodged a police report on the same day after realising that his house was broken into and the said items stolen.

Sylvester, who stayed nearby, was arrested police at 10.45pm on the same day.He was charged under Section 457 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 14 years and liability of a fine on conviction.In another case, a Filipino Bajau was jailed 14 days for threatening to burn a woman's house.Jobless William Rudy, 29, admitted to committing the offence by saying that he would set fire to one Dina Kamlun's house if his wife (believed to be inside the house) did not come out before 10pm, which frightened Dina.

The offence took place at 9pm on Nov 16 at a squatter unit along Jalan Loji, Kingfisher Ujana, Inanam.The court heard that William went to Dina's house and called Dina's mother to ask her about his wife.
